X2
A compression method developed by 3Com/USR, to allow modems to get a maximum data transmission speed of 56Kbps (56,000 bits per second). With other technology promising 56Kbps potential, the ensuing standards battle brought back chilling memories of VHS vs. Beta. A standard was developed, called V.90, thereby ended the conflict.
