Accessify’s Acrobot
Ian Lloyd, of Accessify, has put together an excellent little tool called Acrobot to automatically parse a text sample for abbreviations, and wrap them with the appropriate abbr and acronym elements. Not only that, the resulting mark-up includes the relevant definition.
And, in something close to my heart, he distinguishes between an acronym and an abbreviation.
Right now, the dictionary is Web-development centric, but if you register with the site you can suggest more.
When this site’s new design eventually appears, I will — like the Web Standards Project recently did — be ending my call for visitors to upgrade their browsers.
