The WaSP rests
They done good work.
A testament to the Web Standards Project’s work is that this site looks almost identical in the most recent versions of the big two browsers (Opera would, too, if it wasn’t for that meddling DOM).
While it will be sorely missed, the front has shifted to the Web building community-at-large and the multiple uphill battles we face (everyday, it seems) in building standard-compliant sites. The WaSP helped smooth the terrain, and for that we (that’s builders and surfers) should all be thankful.
On another more sombre note, eight more CANOE employees—and friends—were “laid-off” today. With them likely goes:
- two sections (C-Health and Travel)
- two subsections of the site (SLAM! Wrestling and JAM Metal)
- and even more morale.
One had been a driving force behind CANOE’s editorial content since before it launched in March 1996. The cuts were unexpected, and serve as yet another example of the Scrooge-like mentality at Quebecor.
