Commuter paper shake-up
Well, with the Post sold and speculation on its future running high in forums like the Canadian Association of Journalists email list, the next victim may be Sun Media’s free commuter paper, FYI. Just look at the signs:
- the merger of its competitors (Metro and GTA Today)
- the near absence of FYI Toronto readers on the TTC subways and buses
- the publisher of the Toronto Sun calling describing newspaper giveaways in today’s Globe as “nonsense” and“a dumb decision” that is “just burning up newsprint and ink”
- the axing of the online staff at most of the FYI Web sites across Canada
